Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group Community Listening Sessions

Upcoming Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group Community Listening Sessions

PORT CARLING — The Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group will be holding a public listening
session on Thursday, January 23, 2020, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., at the Port Carling Community
Centre (upper level), located at 3 Bailey Street, Port Carling, Ontario, P0B 1J0.

The purpose of the listening session is to give community members an opportunity to provide
their perspectives on issues within the watershed, which can help inform the advisory group’s
advice. All are welcome to attend.

It is important to note that while the work of the Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group will include
consideration of water levels and flows, the broader focus of the session will be on watershed
health.

The Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group will be conducting a series of further outreach
sessions with municipal leaders, Indigenous communities and other community organizations
throughout the Muskoka Watershed area in early 2020.

About the Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group

The primary focus of the Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group is to provide advice and
recommendations to the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks on issues within
the Muskoka Watershed and support the economic growth of the region. The advisory group will
also provide recommendations on the types of projects that could be undertaken in the region
through the implementation of the Muskoka Watershed Conservation and Management
Initiative. The initiative and the work of the advisory group will help the Ontario government
develop a more comprehensive approach to watershed management.

The nine-member Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group has varied expertise in the fields of
environmental protection and conservation, resource management, urban and land use
planning, municipal representation, natural or applied sciences, and finance within Ontario.

About the Muskoka Watershed Conservation and Management Initiative

The purpose of the Muskoka Watershed Conservation and Management Initiative is to better
identify risks and issues facing the Muskoka Region, allowing the community and province to
work together to protect this vital area.
